How about that week of Android news, eh? The train keeps picking up steam and we’re doing our best to keep up. We’re really fortunate to have other great Android websites to help with news and rumors. These sites do a fantastic job of keeping people informed and offer something a little bit different. We’ve gone back and collected a few things from these sites and done a little of our own digging too. Here’s the stuff we didn’t get a chance to tell you about!

re launching the Android Media Platform to aid hardware manufacturers in prototyping, designing, and testing their latest devices. - The different flavors of Android is starting to confuse people already. Some phones have Android 1.5, other have 1.6, and now Droid has 2.0. Some have multi-touch, others aren’t. Some have MOTOBLUR, others HTC Sense. See what’s going on here?
- The fragmentation is also hindering developers. Case in point, Froogloid’s recent experiences in dealing with the various flavors.
- We’ve known for two years that Android is going to take over the world but it’s nice to see others, like Gizmodo, realize it.
- St-Ericsson, a new joint venture between ST-NXP Wireless and Ericsson Mobile Platform, has announced the availability of a new platform. Called U8500, it allows for such mobile goodies as Full HD 1080p camcorder, high-res, touchscreen display support up to XGA, support for OpenVG 1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0, and dual camera support.
- A 7-inch Photo Frame from NEC is slated to arrive at some point in 2010. Anyone able to make out the rest of the video?
- About 8 minutes or so of Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 footage made its way online and DroidDog was able to sniff it out. The more of this interface we see, the more we fall in love with this phone. Won’t be long and we’ll be justifying full retail price.
- General Mobile, the makers of the Dual Sim handset, are already working on a follow up device. Specs include Android 2.0, a 624Mhz chip, 5.0 mega-pixel camera, and 3.2-inch touch screen.
- The Samsung Behold II will be arriving shortly for T-Mobile and it’s bringing Android 1.5 with it. No surprises here, just somewhat of a bummer. On a positive note, there will be support for 2.0 in the future.
- Wirefly is offering Droid and Droid Eris at ridiculous prices. We’re talking $99 for the big boy and zero for the HTC handset. Contracts and rebates and all that jazz are still required.
- Not only do we know that tethering will be possible on Droid, but we’re also hearing it will run $30 a month. Not as bad as it sounds if you look at it like Androinica does.
- LG’s got some Snapdragon power up their sleeve too. Apparently, they’re planning to release a handset in Korea sometime in the second quarter of next year (Q2’10).
- Remember the Android lawsuit from back in the early part of the summer? Google is going on the offensive now and is counter-suing for the rights to the Android name.
